After nearly 45 minutes, it was Automaton’s turn to treat our ears. They started their set with their EP opener “Going Doing”, and massive doom grooves released from the speakers. At the same time the venue’s projector started to play vintage black and white footages in the backdrop, making the ideal atmosphere for the band’s music. For someone who hasn’t listened to Automaton’s music, they play atmospheric doom with sludgy vocals, and they doing it in a very convincing way. Of course the representation of “Echoes of Mount Ida” EP in their playlist didn’t end with “Going Doing”, but the result wasn’t predictable as someone would expect. The element of surprise for the audience emerged when the female singer of the band “Burning Sticks” got on stage adding some ethereal backing vocals to Automaton’s music. The result was great and the crowd seemed embracing this move. The time had passed though, and it was time for some joints to light up…
I walked inside an already packed venue, to be greeted by Automaton’s brutal wall of sound.....From their devastating EP they played Breathe in Stone/ Echoes of Mount Ida, Going down and I am not sure if they also played Beast of war. What I’m sure of though, is that their choice of song to cover can be nominated as the highlight of this year’s concerts. During the first 2 minutes it sounded familiar, but their very low tuning made it difficult for me to put my finger on which song it was. That is until the beast behind the microphone screamed “I TALK TO PLANETS BABY!” and I felt I was one step away from a heart attack. If only I could describe the faces around me. The perfect opening for the show to come and you definitely need to look up their work, not to mention you should seize any chance to watch them live

Before we get to the main courses of the night though, the show was started by the best support band possible, Automaton. To me at least, these guys are the next big thing Greece has to offer and once again they were shocking. A jaw-dropping performance that mixed the power of Sleep’sriffs with the ambient/psychedelic – drone hallucinations of Earth and on top of everything, the voice of Dimitris Zisis that made the walls bleed....
The time was 21:40 and Greeks Automaton opened the show with their drone doom music and psychedelic sounds... Their slow and heavy riffs filled the venue for about 45 minutes and the fans seemed to enjoy every second. Great atmosphere, absence of light and the mindblowing performance of Dimitris, George, Nicolas, Takis and Lykourgos put us in a Doomed mood, ready for what was about to follow next.
